Bill Massey joined Gladstein, Reif & Meginniss in 2004 and has devoted his career to representing unions and working people. He has handled a wide range of cases before the National Labor Relations Board and the Public Employment Relations Board, including union elections, organizing drives, and unfair labor practice charges. He has successfully represented unions in federal injunction proceedings, including reverse Boys Market cases blocking the sales of nursing homes and 10(j) cases reinstating union recognition and the employment of fired union activists. He has also defended unions against picketing and strike-related lawsuits.

Mr. Massey has extensive collective bargaining experience, negotiating first contracts and multi-employer agreements that establish industry-wide standards, as well as handling contract interpretation, discipline, and interest arbitrations.

In addition to his union work, Mr. Massey has litigated numerous wage and hour cases in federal court on behalf of low-wage workers, including groups of restaurant and delivery workers, food truck vendors, nightclub waitresses, and car wash workers.

He has also represented union members and officers in union democracy cases and drafted legislation. Mr. Massey has served as counsel to members of the Venceremos Brigade and coordinated international delegations of election observers at the Center for International Solidarity in El Salvador.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Massey was a member, delegate, and organizer with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East for five years. From 2012 to 2013, he was a professor in CUNY Law School’s clinical program, where he supervised students in the workers’ rights docket. He regularly speaks at law schools and legal conferences, and conducts trainings in labor law, collective bargaining, and grievance handling for union representatives. Mr. Massey is fluent in Spanish.
