Judith Padow has practiced labor law since 1988. She was Deputy General Counsel and Director of the Legal Department at Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union from 2011 to September 2014, where she managed a staff of seven attorneys and advised the Union on a broad range of matters, including collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, representation elections, and internal union governance. She has been associated with the labor law firms of Cohen, Weiss & Simon and Levy Ratner, where she practiced both labor law and employee benefit law. Ms. Padow has litigated unfair labor practice and representation cases before the National Labor Relations Board, and has litigated in federal and state court, including under the National Labor Relations Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Employee Retirement Income and Security Act, and the New York City Displaced Worker Law. She has served as trustee on numerous Taft-Hartley employee benefit funds, and provided legal advice to labor unions in connection with legislative developments in the area of employee benefits, including under the Pension Protection Act of 1996 and the Affordable Care Act.
She received a J.D. with Honors from Rutgers School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College. She has been an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School since 1999, where she teaches an advanced writing seminar in Labor and Employment Drafting. She is a candidate for a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
She is admitted to practice in New York, before the United States District Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
